
IGEA Executive Chairman Deng Jihai and Representatives of Chinese Institutions and Enterprises Talked to H.E. Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, Former Director-General of WTO in Beijing about New Trends and Measures of Global Economic and Trade Development

Mr. Roberto Azevêdo, Former Director-General of WTO met with Mr. Deng Jihai, Executive Chairman of IGEA and Ms. Yang Lin, Founding Partner of Yingke Law Firm and over 40 representatives of the Chinese business sector in Beijing on the afternoon of Feb.13th, 2025.
Mr. Azevêdo has shared his thoughts on the new pattern of global business and trade, opportunities of green economy and industry transformation, and the market opportunities from the lens of developing countries. He has also provided advice on the globalization of Chinese enterprises.
Mr. Deng Jihai said, International Green Economy Association, highly focusing on topics on climate trade policy and international green trade, such as the EU’s and UK’s CBAM policy and the European Battery Act, is making profound changes to global trade and the industrial chain and supply chain. He seeks to work with Mr. Azevêdo to provide capacity building to the relevant industries in China for enhancing the expert consultation on international green trade.
Mr. Deng has also extended invitation to Mr. Azevêdo for inviting him to join in and speak at the two events held by IGEA in 2025, namely the 2025 CIFTIS-Global Green Economy Development Forum in September in Beijing and the IGEA side events at UNFCCC COP 30 for showcasing the Chinese work proposal of the carbon-peak and carbon-neutral initiative in November in Brazil.
H.E. Mr.Azevêdo has accepted the invitation with pleasure and suggested that he is willing to make further contributions to the globalization process and the green dual-carbon development of the Chinese business sector.
Chinese enterprise representatives of Huawei, JA Solar, Mingyang International, China Tianying and XPENG has also exchanged their views on the globalization of Chinese enterprises. As per the discussion on business globalization, H.E. Mr. Azevêdo has pointed out that the complex international situation with uncertainties in the process of globalization brought by trade barriers and geopolitics has entailed a number of challenges in the cross-cultural strategy of the companies. He advised that the Chinese companies should raise their understanding of cross-cultural differences and make their international communication and cooperation free of barriers.
H.E. Mr.Azevêdo took his post of Director-General of World Trade Organization on September 1st, 2013 and held the position till August 31st, 2022. He had served as Vice-Minister for Economic and Technological Affairs at the Foreign Ministry of Brazil, Brazil's chief trade negotiator for the Doha Round, and Permanent Representative of Brazil to the WTO.
During his time as Director-General of WTO, with his abundant experiences in diplomacy and trade negotiation, he has made good contributions to the stability of the global free trade and trade multi-polarization. He has also made arduous efforts in raising the status of developing countries and upgrading the transparent work mechanism of WTO.
